24th ranked Marin Cilic of Croatia has been suspended for 9 months for a doping violation. The former top 10 player tested positive for nikethamide, a stimulant.  The violation stemmed from a positive test at a Munich tournament back in the Spring.

Cilic contested that the stimulant was ingested by accident as a result of taking a glucose tablet. The ITF accepted his reasoning and reduced the suspension from 2 years to 9 months and it will be back dated to May 1st, so he will be eligible to play again January 31.

As a result of the suspension, Cilic will miss the Australian Open, the next Grand Slam tournament. The former top 10 player has not played since withdrawing from Wimbledon due to a knee injury.
