For quite a while now, the "Big 4" have been the "Big 3", due to Rafa Nadal's absence because of injury. But in Vina del Mar, the former World number one made his comeback after 7 months off. Nadal made both the singles and doubles finals of the ATP event but fell short in both.

Nadal fell in the VTR Open to Horacio Zeballos 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. It was only Nadal's 5th loss out of 41 career clay court finals, a surface he has dominated.

Nadal acknowledged that his knee was not 100 percent,"The knee is still bothering me, but you have to face adversity with the best possible face". The performance calls into question whether Nadal's domination at the French Open will continue. But there is plenty of time between now and that event and the Spaniard is back in action this week in the Brasil Open 2013 from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Like the VTR Open, Nadal will be the tournament's top seed in a field which includes Nicolas Almagro and Juan Monaco.

Nadal had defeated 3rd seed Jeremy Chardy in straight sets before facing unseeded Zeballos in the Finals. Nadal was just two points away from taking the title that ultimately went to the Argentine.
