Two of the top players in the Winston-Salem Open Draw made news on Monday, withdrawing from the event due to injury.
John Isner, the two time and only Champion of the tournament pulled out due to a hip injury while Tomas Berdych withdrew due to right shoulder pain. Berdych is currently the 5th ranked player in the World while Isner has moved up to 14.
The departure takes out the two players who battled in a tremendous final last year and the biggest fan draws of the tournament.
With the U.S. Open approaching, both players stated that they wanted to be healthy for the season's last Major.
Berdych had taken a Wild Card to enter the event. For Isner, it is considered his home tournament.
It leaves the door wide open for a number of players to claim the last tournament before New York.
