American Sam Querrey had no problems dispatching Feliciano Lopez in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday in Winston-Salem. His fellow Countryman, Andy Roddick was not so lucky, falling to Steve Darcis of Belgium 7-6, 7-6.
Despite a first serve percentage of 50%, Querrey came up with 12 aces against Lopez, fueling him to victory and into the quarterfinals of the Winston-Salem Open.
Roddick, despite serving well could not break through against Darcis' serve and lost both tiebreakers as he is eliminated from the tournament. Darcis had three break point opportunities but could not break either.
Querrey will face the winner of the David Nalbandian-Dolgopolov match while Darcis moves on to face the winner of the Berdych-Nieminen match.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and John Isner are in action on Wednesday as well.
