The US Open Series seems at first glance a good idea.

The ATP Schedule, Cobbled out between the Tournament promoters , The Players Council ,  the ITF,The USTA and every other peice of the alphabet soup potpourri that wrestles for control over tennis is a mess!

Olympic Bronze Medalist Juan Martin Del Potro is the latest victim of the grinding lifestyle of Professional Tennis losing to a very under rated and  unappreciated Radek Stepanek 6-4,7-6.

I was sitting in the photo pit and his fatigue was palpabile ,shoulder slumped and a facial expression that made him seem he was mourning the death of his new puppy.

Federer and Nadal bailed out last week ,and later today the other 2 marquee names are going on court in first round matches . Murray  the  london gold medalist has to be worn thin after his carrer win and Djokovic, having lost a chance to medal wont have much to give ,so both could possibily roll over today or tomorrow and water this great field down further.

When I asked Delpo if he was playing Cincy next week he  mumble a shaky yes and talked about needing rest .

These 2 big North American events (Canada & Cincy) Have suffered from dropouts and less than fully committed performances over the last few years.

Well done Radek Stepanek---  The powers that run tennis Not such a great job
